The Website Traffic Stop Lights

Traffic can be found not only in the major city highways and streets, although not everyone may be aware of it. Surfing the Internet takes you into the road of online “vehicles,” jam-packed with tons of data and information streams. So when you go online, you become part of this complex web of the Internet highway. The data you will encounter along the way is what you call website traffic. This term refers to the amount of information or data exchange present in a visitor’s viewing of websites. This is a major portion of Internet activity, since many people surf the World Wide Web to view certain web pages, and each visiting of these pages are tabulated.
Knowing that web page visits are counted, the popularity of a certain website can also be determined. Of course, this tabulation does not include mere hits or web page visits; it also speaks of the number of times a certain file is served. Website traffic tracking has many observations under it being taken note of. If you have a business and you are active online with your promotions and advertising, you will need to know more about these observations. Here are examples:
- Exact number of viewers or visitors of your page
- Number of views per visitor (averaged) – this determines how visitors explore your site, thus implying amount of interest and usefulness of your information
- Visit duration (averaged) – the amount of time spent by each visitor determines how he/she becomes engrossed and interested in your web pages. This also has the same principle with average page duration.
- Most active or busy periods – this can help you determine specific time spans when people go online and view your website, thus giving you hints on what time is best for posting advertising tools.
- Most requested pages – by the phrase itself, you can deduce that this pertains to the most popular pages with the most number of visits. This can also be tracked.
In order to track these, analysis can be found via the web server log file which takes note of all the pages served. Be aware of controlling it through increasing, limiting, or avoiding overloading of website traffic. Know when to go, stop, or slow down in order to make your online usage, whether for business or otherwise, more suitable for your needs and preferences.
